Graduated from St. Joost Academy of Art and Design (Breda, 2000) in sculptural and monumental design. Koster works as a sculptor and autonomous artist, exploring a wide range of materials such as snow, ice, cement, and sand. The sand sculptures are characterized by a rough, figurative style and take Koster around the world, enjoying an inspiring exchange of knowledge with international colleagues. (maybe as extra/optional)—> The autonomous practice is expressed in the North Sea wave sculptures: raw, powerful, and intuitively shaped by hand. These cement works balance between classical and industrial aesthetics, often hinting at rococo ornamentation or archaeological artifacts. The first monumental wave sculpture (2.10 m high) was installed in a sculpture park in Denmark. Koster has also created a suite design for the Icehotel above the Arctic Circle

Artistically, the way of living and thinking is always incredibly interesting and thrilling. Mine started when I was 11 and I made a copy from a room paper wall drawing…and parents said: “You should try to go to Art school.” Since then, my life has had closer friendship with art through small town Art School than J. Rozentala Art College which specialized in painting and drawing and also in Art Academy of Latvia in bachelor later master studies in sculpture. My interest, like an artist, still, is closer to creating forms three dimensional more than staying in flatness, but drawings help to get closer to idea how and way. That’s questions I also had an opportunity to discuss when I was working as a teacher in Marupe Art School with children in drawing and painting studies and in company “Buts”, project “Visual advertising designer” lectures and practical studies. My individual growth complementing each new art project, festival or happening who gives me tasks to proceed.

Twenty years ago, I had my initial encounter with sand sculpture while working as a ticket salesperson during my summer job at a prominent sand sculpture park in Brugge. At the time, I was pursuing my studies in interior design, but I was instantly captivated by the material and the collaborative atmosphere among the group of sculptors working on a massive mound of sand.
Upon completing my studies in 2003, I seized an opportunity to sculpt sand on a project in Germany, and I gladly accepted the offer. From that point on, I pursued every job available to enhance my skills. As a result, a few years later, I found myself traversing the globe, indulging in my greatest passion of creating sculptures in sand, snow, ice, and foam.
During my travels, I encountered an individual who shared the same fervor, and together, we embarked on a thrilling journey across the world, crafting sculptures and forming connections with remarkable people. When we became parents, we brought our children along on our projects, allowing us to continue living our dream as a family.
However, amidst this process, a new aspiration gradually took shape within me—a desire to develop my artistic skills in two-dimensional forms as well. While I still persist in sculpting, for the material possesses an enchanting quality that I cannot forsake, I have also begun pursuing illustration as a means of sustenance. This shift is partially influenced by the fact that my children are growing up and attending school, making frequent travels less feasible.
